Fishing Guide
FISHING Guide
Unlike RDR2 and RDO, you attract fish by jigging your line. If your line isn't jigging, you will not attract or catch the fish. Steps below to assist you with fishing! Give a shout to Coyote if you want to go on a fishing expedition!
Learn on flat/calm water (lakes and ponds). The pond NW of Emerald Ranch train station (across the tracks) or Mattock Pond near Rhodes are perfect to learn on!
Use worms to start. They will attract the most kinds of fish. Use specialty lures to catch particular fish on different bodies of water! NOTE: Lures are not perpetual, the lure will be "used" by the fish...similar to the worms.
Use eagle eye/hunter vision to "see" fish in the water.
Pro tip: If you don't see fish in the water, ride your horse through the water in circles. Then send your horse away. Stand or walk along the shore and the fish will spawn 🤓
Aim and cast the bait line near the fish.
Jig the line a couple times as soon as the line hits the water.
Continue to jig the line off and on -- not fast, but not slow -- until you hook the fish (Check out the videos below to see how it works!).
Once you hook the fish, use your spacebar (even if you use a controller) to reel in the fish.
When the water is calm, smash and hold the spacebar!
When the fish is fighting and the water is foamy white, ease up on the spacebar and lightly tap it.
If you don't lightly tap the spacebar when the fish is fighting, it will run out the line and you'll need to fight the fish longer!
If you are too aggressive with the spacebar, you will snap your line and lose the fish!
Continue to tap the spacebar lightly until the fish stops fighting. Then smash the spacebar again!
Typically you will land the fish in about 2 cycles of smashing the spacebar.
Once you get good at catching fish on flat water, graduate to moving rivers.
For graduation day: Go to Fort Brennand along the Kamassa river and fish for salmon. If you can catch a salmon here, you can catch a fish any where!!
Good luck and happy fishing!! 🎣
